Slinger Signaller

The Aim of the Course is to:

Provide the candidate with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in slinging loads and guiding cranes.

The Objectives of the Course are to enable delegates to:

  • Establish the weight and dimensions of loads and communicate this information to the crane operator

  • Select, attach and detach appropriate lifting tackle

  • Direct the actions of a crane moving loads by giving clear signals to ensure safety of personnel and plant

  • Determine the serviceability of tackle and how to maintain and store it correctly Have sufficient knowledge and practical skills to successfully complete the CPCS Technical Test.

All personnel required to carry out the duties of a Slinger Signaller.

Course Summary

Candidates will participate in theory lessons and practical demonstrations / exercises, all of which are highlighted by the use of OHP & Videos covering;

  • An Introduction to the Construction Industry

  • Current relevant regulations

  • Code of signals

  • How to calculate safe working loads

  • Effects of varying the angles of multi- leg slings

  • Hazards associated with crane operation and how to avoid them CPCS Technical Test Theory Element

Course Duration

This depends on the experience and number of candidates, the ratio of candidates / machines per Instructor.

Health & Safety Training / Testing

Health & Safety Test Specific to your chosen category MUST be passed before a CPCS Technical Test can be Taken.

Testing / Certification

All candidates will complete the Full (Theory & Practical) CPCS Technical Test and on successful completion will be issued with a CPCS Red Trained Operators Card

Companies who are CITB Levy Payers can claim grants to cover some of the costs of the training and tests.
