COURSE AIMS

The aims of the course are:

  • to improve awareness of recent developments in Construction Legislation, along with Health, Safety and Environmental Issues.

  • to identify measures that will assist practical implementation of responsibilities established by new legislation and working practices that have occurred within the lifespan of the candidates current qualification.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the period of training, candidates will:

  • be aware of and able to implement all Health, Safety, Welfare and Environmental Legislation which affects them during their daily work.

  • be aware of and able to implement new guidance and industry best practice.

  • be aware of and able to state their duties and responsibilities with regards to Health, Safety, Welfare and the Environment.

Day 1

0900 – 0915 Course Admin.

0915 – 1015 PRESENT FOCUS of HSE’s ATTENTION

  • Legislation implemented within the last 5 years.

  • New legislation in the pipeline.

1015 – 1045 REVIEW of LEGISLATION IMPLENTED WITHIN THE LAST 5 YEARS

New Legislation and the associated Codes of Practice.

Changes in industry best practice that have occurred as a result of new legislative requirements.

1045 – 1100 BREAK

1100 – 1130 REVIEW of LEGISLATION IMPLENTED WITHIN THE LAST 5 YEARS – Continued

1130 – 1230 NEW GUIDELINES DEALING WITH:

  • Risk Assessments.

  • Stress in the workplace.

  • Training for a safer and better industry.

1230 – 1330 LUNCH

1330 – 1515 CONSULTATION BETWEEN MANAGEMENT & EMPLOYEES

  • Employing young people.

  • Working Time Directive

  • Working with non – English speaking employees

1515 – 1545 BREAK

1545 – 1700 CONSTRUCTION ( Design and Management ) REGULATIONS 2015

  • Understanding the regulations and responsibilities.

  • New Guidance.

0930 – 1030 FIRES on CONSTRUCTION SITES

  • Fire prevention techniques.

  • Fire Safety Risk Assessments.

  • Practical and team exercises

1230 – 1330 LUNCH

1330 – 1430 PROTECTION OF THE PUBLIC

  • Pedestrians and Vehicle segregation.

  • Overhead working.

1430 – 1530 CONSTRUCTION ( Health, Safety and Welfare ) REGULATIONS 1996
