THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO:
This NPORS Appointed Person course provides candidates with the knowledge and skills required to plan, organise, and manage lifting operations safely, in accordance with current legislation and NPORS standards.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE ARE TO ENABLE DELEGATES TO:
- Plan lifting operations in line with legal requirements and industry best practice.
- Understand roles and responsibilities under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).
- Carry out risk assessments and produce method statements for lifting activities.
- Select suitable lifting equipment and accessories for specific tasks.
- Ensure safe systems of work are implemented and maintained.
WHO DO WE RECOMMEND ATTENDS THE COURSE?
This course is designed for individuals who are responsible for planning and supervising lifting operations, including managers, supervisors, and those appointed as the responsible person for lifting activities.
Suitable for those new to the role as well as experienced personnel requiring formal certification or refresher training.
COURSE SUMMARY
This course provides personnel with the theoretical knowledge and practical understanding required to carry out the duties of an Appointed Person. The training includes:
- Overview of relevant health and safety legislation, including LOLER and PUWER
- Roles and responsibilities of the Appointed Person
- Understanding lifting equipment, accessories, and their limitations
- Carrying out risk assessments and lift planning
- Producing lift plans and method statements
- Selection of cranes and lifting equipment for specific operations
- Understanding load weights, centres of gravity, and sling angles
- Communication methods and coordination of lifting operations
- Supervision and safe execution of lifting activities
LOCATIONS
Training and testing can be carried out at our training centre, or at your site premises providing site specifications can be met.
COURSE DURATION
1- 5 days depending on experience and candidate numbers
HEALTH & SAFETY TEST
Candidates are required to have passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environmental test within the past 24 months to obtain the NPORS CSCS Trained Operator card. This test is not mandatory for the Traditional card but can be added upon request.
CERTIFICATION
All candidates will complete the NPORS Theory Test and, upon successful completion, will be issued with either a 5-year NPORS Traditional Operator card or a 2-year NPORS CSCS Trained Operator card as an NPORS Appointed Person.
