Overhead Crane

The Aim of the Course is to:

Provide the candidate with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating an Overhead Crane.

The Objectives of the Course are to enable delegates to:

  • Identify hazards and implement control measures when operating Overhead Gantry Cranes

  • The care and use of the crane and lifting equipment

  • Pre-start checks and service, fault reporting, load attachment, load lifting, load traversing, load placement.

  • Understanding and using Gantry Crane terminology.

  • Understanding the importance of pre-operational checks.

  • Being aware of the safety codes for Crane operators.

  • Developing safe usage techniques.

  • Handling loads, parking and storage techniques.

Who Do We Recommend Attends The Course?

All personnel required to operate an overhead crane.

Course Summary

This course is designed to provide the knowledge to inspect and operate overhead gantry cranes that are controlled by a remote hand held pendant. The Gantry Crane training is conducted using the customers crane within their own work environment.

Course Duration

This depends on the experience and number of candidates, the ratio of candidates / machines per Instructor.

Health & Safety Training / Testing

If the Health & Safety Test is Successfully completed & passed prior to taking the NPORS Assessment this will be added to the operator card.

Testing / Certification

All candidates will complete the Full (Theory & Practical) NPORS Technical Test and on successful completion will be issued with a NPORS Operators Card

Companies who are CITB Levy Payers can claim grants to cover some of the costs of the training and tests.
